Infant Exams & Education

We want to help your child develop healthy dental habits from the very beginning. We recommend bringing your child in at 12 months of age or within 6 months of their first tooth coming in. These early visits give our pediatric dental team an opportunity to evaluate your child’s growth and development, monitor how their smile is developing, check for any early concerns, and help prevent cavities and other problems before they start. Just as importantly, we take time to answer your questions and give you practical guidance on brushing, nutrition, teething, and other parts of caring for your child’s growing smile.

Extraction & Space Maintainers

Getting a tooth extraction can be stressful for anyone, but is especially daunting for children. When you partner with our team at Mountain View Pediatric Dentistry, trust that we take this fear into consideration before beginning. With our sedation options and compassionate approach to dental care, we remove teeth for a variety of reasons, from overcrowding to infection and everything in between. Once complete, we may also put a space maintainer in your child’s mouth to ensure the adult tooth that follows has plenty of room to grow into the space.

Exams & Cleanings

From infancy through the teenage years, our pediatric dental team is dedicated to helping every patient maintain a healthy smile. Routine exams and cleanings allow us to catch cavities, gum concerns, bite changes, and other developing issues early, while reinforcing healthy habits along the way.

For children and teens who need more advanced gum care or deeper cleanings, our dental hygienist can provide additional treatment when needed. With regular preventive care and personalized guidance for each patient, we can help keep smiles healthy and set the foundation for good oral health into adulthood.

White Fillings

While your child may need fillings, you likely want to ensure they don’t alter the appearance of their smile. To help protect the health and appearance of your child’s smile, our team provides white fillings. These fillings are designed to protect your child’s smile from growing cavities that may otherwise lead to further health complications, increased discomfort, and risks to the surrounding teeth. We don’t want your children to be in pain, which is why we provide careful, compassionate dental fillings to protect their smile today and until the baby tooth falls out.

Sedation Dentistry

Some children benefit from sedation dentistry to help them feel more comfortable during treatment or to safely complete dental care that may otherwise be difficult for them. Depending on your child’s needs, we offer nitrous oxide (laughing gas), oral sedation, in-office IV sedation, and hospital-based general anesthesia at Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City. We’ll work with you to determine which option is the best fit for your child’s individual needs.

Our goal is to make treatment as calm, comfortable, and positive as possible for every patient. When appropriate, sedation can help create a more positive dental experience and build confidence for future visits. It can also make dental care easier for children who need a little extra support while helping parents feel confident and at ease throughout the process.

Crowns

When you think of dental crowns, you may think of adult teeth. While it isn’t all that common, some children will need a crown to protect the underlying baby tooth while waiting for the adult tooth to grow in. In some cases, even after extensive cleaning and filling, your child may need a crown to support the tooth. That’s where our team comes in. We will carefully place a crown to help protect your child’s tooth while maintaining the appearance and function of their smile. With our help, they can avoid inescapable discomfort and struggles with their bite.

Infants & Feeding Concerns

Tongue and lip ties can sometimes make breastfeeding or bottle feeding more difficult, leading to problems with latching, prolonged feedings, discomfort, or concerns about weight gain. When appropriate, we work with lactation consultants, speech and feeding therapists, myofunctional therapists, body workers, and other providers to determine whether treatment may help improve feeding and function.

Older Children & Teens

In older children and teens, tongue restrictions may contribute to concerns with speech, food textures, tongue mobility, or tension and discomfort in the mouth or jaw. We focus on how the tongue is functioning and take a multidisciplinary approach, collaborating with speech therapists, myofunctional therapists, and other providers when appropriate.

Pulpotomy

At Mountain View Pediatric Dentistry, we proudly provide pulpotomies with a gentle, child-focused approach designed to keep young patients comfortable and at ease. During treatment, the affected portion of the pulp is carefully removed while the healthy tissue is preserved. The tooth is then cleaned, medicated, and typically restored with a dental crown for added strength and protection. A pulpotomy can relieve discomfort, stop the spread of infection, and help maintain your child’s natural smile until the tooth is ready to fall out on its own.

Invisalign/Clear Aligners

Gone are the days of smile changes only through the use of metal brackets and traditional braces. For less severe bite misalignments, space problems, and more, our team also offers clear aligner treatments. With weekly or bi-weekly tray changes, your child can address any bite problems they may be experiencing without needing to worry about frequent trips into the office. With their nearly invisible appearance and limited hardware, they are a much more comfortable, easy treatment option for all of the patients who are good candidates for it. 

Airway-Focused Orthodontics

When you think about orthodontics, you probably think about addressing bite problems, but that isn’t the only use. This orthodontic device will slowly apply controlled pressure, helping to widen their palate while it is still flexible. When it’s done, your child’s teeth will fit more comfortably in their mouth.

When your child is done wearing their braces, we’re still committed to providing them with essential support. Our retainers are designed to help them protect the smile they worked so hard to achieve. Myofunctional Orthodontics

Thumb Sucking Appliances

Wisdom Tooth Removal
